Growing up

It's preferable to buy a Chihuahua puppy when he is 12 weeks old (about 3 months). Not only for vaccination reasons but mainly for age psychology. At this age puppies become independent of their mother and show great interest in the surrounding world. At 3-month age puppies become teenagers and up to 5 months grow intensively. Then they slow down and some of them stop as they are supposed to be very small (about 1600g). In their teenage puppies look clumsy and need improvement: head is small, muzzle
unproportional, body lacks volume, legs too long so the dog looks awkward and funny (and very touchy!).

If it's a long coat dog he does not look like a magnificent dog he is going to turn into later. At the age of 5 months their teeth get changed. You can detect it by swollen gum. First the incisors will be replaced then fangs. Its important at this moment to inspect their mouth and if necessary consult a vet. Change of teeth
goes in a peculiar way typical for all small breeds: very often molar teeth appear next to milk teeth that are quite well rooted. Only a very experienced vet can do this difficult operation of pulling milk teeth out. Don't allow amateurs interfere - they might destroy your pet's health and even show career. There are cases known when such amateurs pulled out molar teeth instead of milk ones. If you ignore this stage your dog will have completely or partially wrong bite. Besides food leftovers will get between two rows of teeth and will lead to swelling of the gum and early loss of molars. Complete replacement of teeth is over by 7-8 months. Shedding goes on at the same time. Long coat dogs look like half dressed lamp brush. Some shed so much hair that

The shedding will be quicker and your pet will get his gorgeous coat sooner. Do not panic if during teeth change your pet's ears will drop. Add calcium to his food and things will improve.
Starting from 6 months a Chihuahua bitch is expected to have first season and male dogs have their testicles in scrotum and they get attracted to the opposite sex.
9-month males are able to produce posterity. Bitches reach puberty only by second season that is by approximately 15 months. Both ripen by 1,5 -2 years.
Males get mature and bitches look feminine and attractive. Long coats will turn into splendid sunny dogs with shiny hair and smooth coats - into giant athletes. Their lucky owners will be proud of their beautiful dogs and admire them. No wonder their ancestors techini were worshipped by majestic inks.
